STANDARD REFERENCE / YZEFY SPROCKETS
DIN sprockets
DIN sprockets are used with European and German roller chain systems identified by references such as 06B, 08B, 10B and 12B. They are common in European machinery, German equipment, packaging, woodworking, conveyors and replacement work. Selection requires the exact chain designation, strand count, teeth, bore, keyway and hub dimensions. A legacy DIN drawing can be quoted from the original reference, while a custom or replacement order can start from a drawing, chain marking, old sprocket or sample. Send the available information so the chain and shaft interface can be checked together.

Available Sizes
DIN uses the same canonical B-series child pages as the ISO and BS parent pages.
Chain & Size Reference
The following B-series dimensions are in millimetres and are used to identify the mating chain before a DIN sprocket is specified. They are chain dimensions, not a complete sprocket drawing. The strand suffix such as -1, -2 or -3 identifies simplex, duplex or triplex construction in common B-series notation.
| Chain reference | Pitch | Roller diameter | Inner width |
|---|---|---|---|
| 04B | 6.000 | 4.000 | 2.800 |
| 05B | 8.000 | 5.000 | 3.000 |
| 06B | 9.525 | 6.350 | 5.720 |
| 08B | 12.700 | 8.510 | 7.750 |
| 10B | 15.875 | 10.160 | 9.650 |
| 12B | 19.050 | 12.070 | 11.680 |
| 16B | 25.400 | 15.880 | 17.020 |
| 20B | 31.750 | 19.050 | 19.560 |
| 24B | 38.100 | 25.400 | 25.400 |
The sprocket still needs a number of teeth, pitch diameter, outside diameter, tooth width and mounting dimensions. Do not select a replacement from the pitch alone, especially when a drawing uses a legacy DIN designation.
Available Sprocket Configurations
Sprocket forms
- Form A plate sprockets for hubless or separately mounted arrangements.
- Form B sprockets with a hub on one side.
- Form C sprockets with hubs on both sides or a wider shaft interface.
- Form D separated-hub sprockets and other drawing-defined forms for restricted installation space.
Strand configurations
Specify simplex, duplex or triplex. The tooth width and transverse spacing must match the B-series chain rows. A designation such as 08B is not complete until the strand suffix and tooth count are stated.
Materials
Carbon steel suits many general transmission and conveyor drives. Alloy steel can be specified for higher load, shock or wear requirements. Stainless steel is considered for corrosion, washdown or cleaning exposure. Cast iron, aluminum and engineering plastics may be used for application-specific low-load or weight-sensitive designs.
The RFQ should state the material grade, supply condition and certificate requirement. Material selection follows load, speed, shock, lubrication, corrosion, temperature and cleaning conditions, not the DIN reference alone.
Heat Treatment & Surface Treatment
Tooth hardening and induction hardening can reduce tooth wear in repeated-load drives. Carburizing can be selected when the drawing calls for a hard case and a tougher core. Protective surface treatment can be specified for corrosion, storage or washdown exposure.
State hardness, case depth, treatment area, surface finish and inspection method when the machine specification controls them. If the old DIN drawing does not include treatment details, send the load cycle, speed, lubrication and environment with the sample or dimensions.
Custom DIN Sprockets
Custom DIN sprockets are defined by the chain reference and the machine interface. Send the exact DIN or DIN ISO reference, chain size, number of teeth, strand, bore, keyway, hub dimensions and quantity. A drawing should also identify material, treatment, tolerances, marking and inspection requirements.
For a legacy order, retain the original drawing number and revision. For a sample-based order, include the chain marking, tooth count, pitch, roller diameter, inner width, face width, shaft measurements and photos. Application speed, load and center distance help resolve dimensions that wear may have changed.
Replacement DIN Sprockets
Replacement DIN sprockets are used in old European equipment, German machinery and MRO projects where the original part may carry a DIN 8187, DIN 8188 or supplier-specific reference. Send the old drawing, chain marking, tooth count, bore, keyway, hub, face width, photos and sample when available.
Keep the legacy reference in the RFQ. A current DIN ISO 606 sprocket may be a suitable replacement, but the decision requires a comparison of chain dimensions, tooth form, strand spacing and shaft interface. Do not reproduce worn teeth without checking the mating chain and the original design intent.
Applications
DIN sprocket inquiries commonly come from European machinery, German equipment, packaging lines, woodworking equipment, conveyors and legacy industrial drives. They also arise when a machine drawing uses a B-series chain reference but the original sprocket supplier is no longer available. Replacement work is easier when the chain marking and shaft measurements are sent together.
The equipment origin helps identify the document family. It does not replace the dimensional check for pitch, roller diameter, inner width, strand spacing, teeth, bore and hub.
Standard & Compatibility Notes
DIN 8187 is a legacy European-type roller chain reference. DIN 8188 identifies American-type roller chains in the DIN system, so a DIN 8188 reference should not be treated as a B-series reference. Both terms can still appear on old drawings and catalogues, which is why the exact designation and revision should stay in the RFQ.
DIN ISO 606:2018-02 is the German adoption of ISO 606:2015. DIN 8192:2019-05 specifies dimensions for chain sprockets for roller chains specified in DIN ISO 606. These current references help with new drawings, while a legacy drawing still needs a direct dimensional comparison before substitution.
How to Select
- Copy the exact DIN, DIN ISO or legacy reference from the drawing.
- Decide whether the reference is European B-series or American-type DIN 8188.
- Confirm chain number, pitch, roller diameter, inner width and strand suffix.
- Record driver and driven teeth, speed ratio, center distance, wrap and chain line.
- Select Form A, B, C or D, then specify bore, keyway, hub and installation access.
- State material, heat treatment, surface finish, quantity and inspection documents.
- Send the original drawing or a measured sample when the part is a legacy replacement.
FAQ
What are DIN sprockets?
DIN sprockets are specified for roller chain systems identified by German or European references. Current DIN ISO 606 and legacy DIN references must be distinguished before a sprocket is selected.
What is DIN 8187?
DIN 8187 is a legacy European-type roller chain reference. An old drawing may still use it even when a current project uses DIN ISO 606, so keep the original designation and compare dimensions.
What is the difference between DIN 8187 and DIN 8188?
DIN 8187 refers to the European-type family, while DIN 8188 refers to American-type roller chains in the DIN system. They should not be treated as interchangeable B-series references.
What does 08B-1 mean?
08B identifies the B-series chain size and -1 commonly identifies a simplex chain. Confirm the complete chain drawing, because the sprocket also depends on teeth, bore and shaft interface.
Are DIN and ISO sprockets interchangeable?
Some current DIN and ISO documents are aligned, but a similar designation is not enough. Compare the chain dimensions, tooth form, strand spacing and mounting interface for the actual project.
Can an old DIN sprocket be reproduced from a sample?
Yes, a sample, drawing, chain marking and shaft measurements can start a replacement review. Worn tooth geometry should be checked against the mating chain rather than copied without inspection.
Request a Quote for DIN Sprockets
Send the DIN or DIN ISO reference, chain designation, strand count, number of teeth, bore, keyway, hub, quantity and application. For old European equipment, attach the original drawing, chain marking, photos, sample details and shaft measurements. This information supports a standard, custom or replacement sprocket review.
